This document is to be read and acknowledged by the parent or legal guardian of the participant before the event. It outlines important information regarding the nature of the experience and serves as a formal acknowledgment of risks and responsibilities.
We know this looks serious, and it is, but please don't be alarmed. This isn't a warning; it's a worst-case-scenario clause, and a step towards transparent communication and safety. We've got your back, but we also need to be clear.
🚩 About the Program
Ground Zero is an intensive, immersive, 3-day residential experience involving physical activities, team competitions, outdoor exploration, water-based games, and leadership-building challenges. Participants are supervised by trained staff and mentors, and safety is a top priority at every stage.
However, as with any high-energy program, there are inherent risks, risks that are part of what makes the experience real, exciting, and growth-oriented. These cannot be completely eliminated without removing the essence of the program.
⚠️ Activities and Associated Risks
We've taken every measure to minimise risk, including professional facilitators, trained lifeguards, on-call medical support, risk assessments, and emergency protocols. By signing this, you acknowledge the following potential risks:
- Transport: Participants will travel via air-conditioned coasters. Risks include road traffic accidents, mechanical breakdowns, and delays beyond our control.
- Physical Activities may include running, climbing, swimming, crawling, jumping, team games, and endurance tasks. Risks may include slips, trips, ankle twists, muscle strain, fatigue, bruises, sunburn, dehydration, and exposure to heat. A 24/7 on-site doctor, first-aid kits, and hydration stations will be available at all times.
- Water-Based Activities may include water races, swimming, and pool-based challenges. Risks include slipping, cramps, water fatigue, discomfort, and mild injuries. All water-based activities are conducted in the presence of trained lifeguards and program facilitators.
- Outdoor Exposure: As this is an outdoor-based program, exposure to sunlight, heat, humidity, and uneven terrain is expected. Participants may experience discomfort, mild sunburn, insect bites, or weather-related fatigue. Sunscreen, hydration, and shade breaks are encouraged and facilitated.
- Supervision: The Tribe takes all reasonable precautions to ensure supervision throughout the program. That said, participants may be unaccompanied at certain points (e.g., breaks, team-based decision-making moments). They are expected to act responsibly and follow the guidance of coaches and staff.
